Description
File of correspondence concerning the grave of Private William Grant Munro in Ruyaulcourt Military Cemetery, France. Correspondence regarding the identification of the grave of Pte Munro. Relatives visiting the grave stated the information they were given on the location of the grave are wrong and is inscribed as an unknown NZ soldier. Further correspondence investigated the error and a letter to Miss Shirass (Cousin) confirms that due to the nature of graves being shared by soldiers, Pte. Munro’s name is on his grave but on the lower half of the stone. Relatives were not convinced and photos are sent to satisfy the relatives a stone has been erected in his memory. Complications due to row numbers and graves numbers created the confusion as well as a large rose obscuring Pte Munros name.
Content Note
Includes: photo of row of graves and letter from cousin re-affirming that the grave does not hold his name. Letters from Miss Shirass (cousin).
