Sergeant THOMAS AVERY - VIMY MEMORIAL - Canadian Infantry
File of correspondence concerning Sjt. T. Avery who is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, France. Main topics include: enquiry on behalf of the next-of-kin as to the whereabouts of his grave along with that of the widow's brother Private I. H. Lyon, both of whom are commemorated on the Vimy Memorial; investigation into the apparent omission of the name of Sjt. T. Avery on the memorial which another member of the family was unable to find despite having receieved confirmation that it was included in the register.
Includes: Handwritten letter from Mrs K. M. Brooks in the UK and from Mrs A. B. Avery in the USA enquiring as to the whereabouts of Sjt. T. Avery's grave along with that of the widow's brother Private I. H. Lyon with a view to her visiting them during her visit to Europe, the Commission's reply confirming both are commemorated on the Vimy Memorial; internal correspondence concerning the apparent omission of the name of Sjt. T. Avery on the memorial which another member of the family Mr. W. Avery was unable to find despite having received confirmation that it was included in the register, concluding that it was omitted by the contractor responsible for engraving the names.
