Title
Lieutenant Colonel REGINALD HENRY NAPIER SETTLE - POZIERES MEMORIAL - 19th (Queen Alexandra's Own Royal) Hussars
Multimedia
Description
File of correspondence concerning Lieutenant Colonel Reginald Henry Napier Settle who is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France. Correspondence is mostly from Lady Settle about her son whose body was not found.
Content Note
Includes: Correspondence from Lady Settle who 'presents her compliments' in her own hand, although she writes in the third person; there are three unmarked graves but despite strenuous efforts Settle is never found and St James's Palace believes him to be blown to bits. The three graves had been bodies buried by Germans. Much of Lady Settle's correspondence relies on a description of which tailor's label will be found in items he may have been wearing.
