DescriptionFile of correspondence regarding the grave of 2nd Lieutenant E.J. Pascoe in Izel-les-Equerchin Communal Cemetery, France, who had been shot down behind enemy lines on 14 April 1917 and died whilst a prisoner of the war and buried by the Germans in the cemetery. Correspondence concerns enquiries that were made in Berlin after the end of the war to confirm the registration of the grave and arrangements for erecting a headstone. Later correspondence relates to the visit of a relative of one of the other two soldiers in 1936 and who raised concerns about the neglect of the graves. It was decided to exhume the bodies and rebury them in Orchard Dump Cemetery, Arleux-en-Gohelle, but Pascoe's mother was contacted to ask for approval of the move and she requested that the body remain where it was, and this was complied with.
Content NoteIncludes: Letter from Mrs Pascoe requesting that her son's remains be left to rest in Izel-les-Esquerchin Communal Cemetery, dated 9 October 1936.
