Chalmers, IWGC Secretary, requesting permission to exhume and repatriate the remains of Second Lieutenant Garnett to the United States, dated 29 August 1959; letter from P.N. Wheeler explaining that an application to obtain a permit to repatriate Second Lieutenant Garnett’s remains would have to submitted through the Secretary of State for the Home Department and Embassy of the United States of America, dated 4 September 1959; letter from the Regional Director, UK Region, to the Director-General, CERO, reporting that the exhumation of Second Lieutenant Garnett’s remains took place on 24 February 1960 by the Lincoln Co-operative Society Funeral Service and that the remains were subsequently cremated and despatched to America, dated 1 March 1960.
