DescriptionFile of correspondence concerning the grave of 2nd Lieutenant Hayden Harry Dongray in Canadian Cemetery No. 2, Neuville-St. Vaast, France. Correspondence concerns the location of 2nd Lieutenant Dongray's grave, which was initially recorded as unknown and communicated to his family that he would be commemorated on the Arras Memorial. Later correspondence concerns the discovery of the remains of an unknown soldier near Beugnatre who was reburied in Canadian Cemetery No. 2, Neuville-St. Vaast and subsequently identified as 2nd Lieutenant Dongray. Further correspondence concerns the erection of the headstone in 1938 which was destroyed during the Second World War and replaced in 1951.

Roft who confirmed he would be able to pick out the exact location of Dongray's grave, dated 22 May 1919; Copy letter from Principal Assistant Secretary (crossed out and signed with initials C.D.W.) explaining 2nd Lieutenant Dongray would be commemorated on the Arras Memorial, dated 27 March 1922; Copy internal letter confirming identification of 2nd LIeutenant Dongray's grave and requesting his removal from the lists for the Arras Memorial, dated 24 March 1938; Copy letter from Frank Tyrrell, Secretary, to Mr Dongray informing him of 2nd Lieutenant Dongray's grave location, dated 1 April 1938; Copy letter from Director of Works requesting a number of headstones, including Dongray's, dated 27 May 1938; Letter from Mr Dongray explaining he had visited his son's grave to find that the headstone had been destroyed during the Second World War, dated 26 October 1949; Copy letter to Mr Dongray from Frank Tyrrell, confirming that a new headstone had been erected over Second Lieutenant Dongray's grave, dated 15 May 1951.
