File of correspondence concerning the grave of Captain H.H. Fownes in Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery, Saulty. Main topics include correspondence regarding an enquiry from Captain Fownes’s mother requesting for a photograph to be taken of the grave and sent to her. Further correspondence about visiting the grave with the new husband of Captain Fownes’s widow and an enquiry from Captain Fownes’s sister asking for the whereabouts of the grave and providing information about actions in which he was involved up until his death. Later enquiry regarding the location of the grave from Captain Fownes’s niece.
Includes: Handwritten letter from the sister of Captain Fownes asking about the location of the grave and wooden cross and explaining that Captain Fownes died of wounds at Oblique Casualty Clearing Station on 17 March 1917, dated 4 August 1937.
