Includes correspondence regarding various enquiries received by the Graves Registration Commission and the Imperial War Graves Commission concerning the location of Lieutenant Talbot’s grave in Ypres Town Cemetery, Belgium. Later correspondence regarding return of final verification form from next of kin with suggested amendments to Lieutenant Talbot’s details and her desire for “C” Battery to be included on his headstone. Response from the Commission explaining the reason for rejecting the request was based on availability of space for letters on the headstone and not cost. Further correspondence with next of kin with Commission agreeing to engrave the words “C. Battery” in lieu of Lieutenant Talbot’s age on the headstone.
Content NoteIncludes: Internal note stating that Talbot died in an ambulance travelling to Ypres Hospital and was buried in Ypres Town Cemetery, listing the names of all of the officers present at the burial, dated 12 June 1920. Extract from war diary of 4th Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery, for 22 and 23 October 1914. Handwritten letter from next of kin regarding her efforts to trace Lieutenant Talbot’s grave in Ypres, with a sketch plan of the cemetery showing E.L. Talbot’s grave, dated 9 July 1920. Letter from next of kin requesting to have “C. Battery” engraved on Talbot’s headstone, dated 26 November 1921.
