DescriptionFile of correspondence regarding the grave of Quartermaster Serjeant Edwin John Gover in Tooting (St. Nicholas) Churchyard, United Kingdom. Main topic concerns correspondence received from the daughter of Quartermaster Serjeant Gover informing the Commission of her mother's death and requesting assistance as Gover's grave was waterlogged and she had to purchase a plot elsewhere for her mother's burial. Response from the Commission advising on responsibility to maintain graves of the two world wars only and correspondence to Area Superintendent of South Eastern Area instructing him to inspect the churchyard in the near future to assess the condition.
Content NoteIncludes: Handwritten letter from Mrs Laurie Ellen Duffield, daughter of Quartermaster Serjeant Gover, asking for assistance with regards to her mother's burial as she had intended to bury her in the same grave as her father but the grave was waterlogged which meant Mrs Duffield had to purchase a plot elsewhere, dated 26 March 1958. Copy of special report of inspection by Area Superintendent of South Eastern Area advising on the condition of the prviate memorial and that there was no waterlogging present at the time of the visit and the Council had dealt with this previously meaning it would have been possible for Gover's grave to be opened up for the burial of Mrs Duffield's mother, dated 22 April 1958.
