Main topics include correspondence notifying Director of Works that no personal inscription was chosen by the next of kin as a private memorial had been erected over the grave, correspondence to Messrs. Macrae, Flett and Rennie from the Commission advising that the private memorial was not very durable and would possibly require replacement with a Commission headstone, as well as correspondence concerning the next of kin's dissatisfaction with the personal inscription on the headstone and the erection of a replacement headstone. Further correspondence regarding arrangements to erect a new replacement headstone as a friend of Mrs Howie had visited the grave in 1943 and confirmed the details were not properly corrected.

Copy letter from Messrs Macrae, Flett and Rennie to the Commission on behalf of Mrs Howie expressing her dissatisfaction with the details inscribed on Howie's headstone, dated 3 March 1937. Copy of headstone layout for new artificial headstone to be erected and inscribed by J. Dimos Cairo to replace the old stone which bore an incorrect inscription, undated.
