DescriptionFile of correspondence concerning the grave of Gunner J Forest in Londonderry Cemetery and Gunner James Cullen who was interred in the same grave on 28 December 1925. Main topics include the erection of a permanent headstone over Gunner Forest's grave and the question over whether a second headstone should be erected or an inscription added to the existing headstone to reflect the interment of Gunner Cullen. Correspondence regarding decision to be made with regards to commemorating Gunner Cullen on the same headstone and laying the metal headstone for him flat on the grave. Correspondence explaining the only space to add Cullen's name and details was on the reverse of Forrest's headstone and the Commission was opposed to erecting a second marker on the grave.
Content NoteIncludes: Copy letter from William McClements, Cemetery Superintendent, regarding investigations into the cast metal headstone to Gunner Cullen which had been stored in the cemetery workshop and had been brought over by members of the Royal Garrison Artillery stationed at Fort Leenan and could not be placed on the grave as there was not space available, dated 16 September 1937.
