Title
Gunner FREDERICK HENRY PLACE - HOUGHTON-LE-SPRING (ST. MICHAEL) CHURCH BURIAL GROUND - Royal Garrison Artillery
Multimedia
Description
File of correspondence concerning the grave of Gunner Frederick Henry Place in Houghton-le-Spring (St. Michael) Church Burial Ground, United Kingdom, and the erection of a special memorial to Gunner Place and three other soldiers in Houghton-le-Spring (Durham Road) Cemetery, as his original place of burial had become unmaintainable by the Commission. Main topics include correspondence with Gunner Place's brother informing him about the erection of the special memorial and the choice of letters for the personal inscription on the headstone. Response from Place's brother explains he has no idea where Place's widow was and suggests the inscription should read "Rest In Peace". Copy letter addressed to Place's brother confirming the special memorial had been erected.
