Completed form sent to DGRE by the Royal Horse and Royal Field Artillery Record Office in Woolwich, London, confirming the particulars of Bombardier Leggett and that he died of wounds received in action in the military hospital of York, as well as confirming the next of kin’s details and Bombardier Leggett’s religious denomination, dated 10 August 1920. Handwritten letter from Bombardier Leggett’s brother explaining that a wooden cross had been erected over the grave six years previously and had since fallen into disrepair, enquiring whether a replacement headstone would be erected, dated 18 June 1929. Handwritten letter from casualty’s brother confirming that Bombardier Leggett had been buried in a family grave which was marked with a permanent headstone and that he and his father had had trouble with the Cemetery Authorities who had prohibited all wooden memorials, dated 5 July 1929. Handwritten letter from casualty’s next of kin requesting for a replacement wooden cross to be erected over the grave, dated 27 July 1937. Copy extract from 209th Commission meeting regarding the policy for the erection of headstones over graves in the United Kingdom, dated 10 November 1937. Copy letter sent to Bombardier Leggett’s next of kin in connection with the headstone which the Commission proposed to erect over the grave and the accompanying form to be completed by the next of kin, dated 19 November 1937.
