Multimedia
Description
File of correspondence concerning the original grave and burial of Gunner John William Horrigan in Bonham (St. Benedict) Roman Catholic Chapelyard and his subsequent reburial in Wardour Roman Catholic Cemetery. Main topics concern the Commission contacting Gunner Horrigan’s widow to inform her that the chapel and burial ground in which her husband’s grave was located was on the estate of Lord Mowbray and had been recently deconsecrated for the site to be levelled off and to become part of the lawn of Bonham House so exhumation and reburial in another cemetery to ensure continued maintenance. The Commission subsequently exhumed Gunner Horrigan’s grave and the grave of another war casualty from here and reburied them in Wardour Roman Catholic Cemetery, in Wardour Castle, Wiltshire.
