Note to Director of Records from Lieutenant H.F. Coleman of the Australian Graves Services regarding exhumation of the remains of an unknown Australian captain from Sheet 28. D. 11. c. 5.5. on 14 September 1920 and reburial into Grave 1 Row E Plot 40 in Tyne Cot Military Cemetery, with recommendation that the unknown be identified as Captain Jeffries based on the evidence found, dated 1 March 1921. Letter from Colonel G.T. Brierley writing on behalf of Sir William Pulteney and the Ypres League requesting the addresses of the next of kin of VC’s named in enclosed list, with two-page list of thirty-three casualties who were awarded posthumous Victoria Crosses, dated 21 August 1923. Response to Colonel Brierley providing information on VCs, dated 30 August 1923. Note from Enquiries Branch regarding return of final verification form by Captain Jeffries’ next of kin with observation that it would be optional to engrave a Cross or Star of David on the headstone and that no personal inscription was chosen, dated 25 April 1924.
