Report of the 453rd Meeting of the Finance Committee: Annual Estimates for 1958-59
Estimate for the year 1958-59 and revised estimate for the year of 1957-58, including details of underspending in 1957-58 due to delays in construction and maintenance work, savings resulting from the revaluation of the French franc and special measures by the Commission to restrict expenditure; estimated cost of further maintenance work for the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, which consisted of damage and staining of the panels, renewing the lighting on the stairwells and replacement of a bronze gate; erection of a Cross of Sacrifice at Kingston (Cataraqui) Cemetery;

Approval of the sketch design for construction work at Kingston (Up Park Camp) Military Cemetery, which included a screen wall commemorating unmaintainable First World War graves located in Jamaica and the erection of a Cross of Sacrifice in relation to Second World War graves.

Approval of the sketch designs for the Memorial in Palmietkuil South Native Cemetery, Transvaal, South Africa, designed by Messrs. Gordon Leith & Partners.

Approval of the sketch design for the Nigeria Memorial designed by R. Hobday, ARIBA, which commemorated Second World War servicemen whose graves were unmaintainable and took the form of a Screen Wall behind the existing 1914-1918 Memorial.

Refers to the approval of the lease for the land adjoining Les Baraques Military Cemetery, Sangatte, France, which was required to protect the cemetery from sand encroachment.

Authorisation granted to the Area Superintendent, Central Area, United Kingdom Region, to sign a tenancy agreement for additional rooms at the Area office at Harrogate.

General Notes
Report regarding Remembrance Day ceremonies held in November and clearance of mines in Jerusalem War Cemetery on Mount Scopus; details for the unveiling ceremony for the Rangoon Memorial, which was to be carried out by General Festing, former Commander of the 36th Division; death of Lieutenant-Colonel E. H. Jarvis, former Deputy Director of Works at the Commission between 1920 and 1940, was reported.
