Report of the 419th Finance Committee meeting
Item 1 dealt with the Accounts of the Commission for the year ended 31st March 1954.
Item 2 concerned the construction of Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery and Groesbeek Memorial.
Item 3 referred to a small wall proposed by the Chairman following his recent visit to Medjez-el-Bab War Cemetery which he felt was necessary to complete the design of the cemetery.
Item 8 dealt with the provision of headstones for Czechoslovak graves other than those in Brookwood Military Cemetery.
Item 9 dealt with the manufacture in Cairo of synthetic headstones.
Item 10 referred to stonework in Heliopolis War Cemetery.
Item 12 referred to construction and maintenance work in West Africa.
Item 13 referred to a write-off in connection to a theft from the Commission’s stores in Egypt in the form of three-quarters of a mile of water piping.

Presentation of British Empire Medals

Gift of carved wooden box from the Maori People of New Zealand
Mentions that following the unveiling of the Alamein Memorial Lieutenant-Colonel C. Bennett, D.S.O., a former Commanding Officer of the New Zealand Maori Battalion, had asked the Chief Administrative Officer of the District to accept a wooden box adorned with Maori carving as a gift of appreciation from the Maori people for how the Commission kept Maori war graves.
