Italian Stone
Update on the question of Italian Stone which was settled the very next day after the last Meeting, when the Foreign Office replied officially that they had no objection to the use of Italian Stone for headstones in Egypt and North Africa, and the Commission were therefore able to go ahead.
July Meeting of the Commission
Mentions that after discussion it was agreed that the 294th Meeting of the Commission should be held at Brookwood Military Cemetery.
Visit of the Secretary-General of the Commission’s Anzac Agency
Update on Brigadier Brown’s recent visit to England, including that he had visited Colonel Osborne, Head of the Commission’s Canadian Agency, on his return journey to Australia.
Report of the 337th Meeting of the Finance Committee
Item 4 indicated progress with contracts for headstone beams for the United Kingdom.
Item 5 dealt with the stone carving machines.
Item 12 referred to a memorandum by the Director of Works on constructional work at the Military and R.A.F. Cemeteries, Brookwood.
Negotiations with the Transport and General Workers’ Union
Update on negotiating process and resolution that the proposed Constitution of the Imperial War Graves Commission Joint Negotiating Committee as, further amended and initialled by the Vice-Chairman be now approved under the terms of the said Resolution.
Memorials To Those Who Have No Grave – British Commonwealth Land Forces
Update on the question of the memorials to the missing to be erected for the Second World War and mention that the Commission proposed to ask the Army Council for their views in pursuance of the decision of the Commission at their 288th Meeting.
Battle Exploit Memorials
Mention that the Commission were asked to give formal approval to recommendations of the Battle Exploits Memorials Committee respecting the projects of five units for Commemorative Monuments overseas. Brief overview of the setup of the Battle Exploit Memorials Committee and resolution that the Commission approve the recommendation of the Battle Exploits Memorials Committee in regard to:
2nd Division Memorial, Kohima, India;
15th (Scottish Division) Memorial, Mondrainville, Normandy;
52nd (Lowland) Division Memorial, Islands of South Beveland and Walcheren, Holland;
46th Division Memorial, Salerno and Meldola;
Central India Horse Memorial, Terrini, Italy.

Next meeting of the Commission was fixed for Thursday 17 July 1947, at 3.30 p.m. in the Canadian Building at Brookwood Military Cemetery.
