Announcement of the death of Sir John Burnet, the Commission’s architect for sites in Gallipoli, also referring to his work as designer of Jerusalem War Cemetery and the Indian Memorial at Port Tewfik. A statement was recorded in the Minutes.

Welcome to Admiral Sir Howard Kelly, who replaced Admiral Sir Morgan Singer.

Special Committee
Refers to the report of the Special Committee appointed under Resolution 3 of the 213th Meeting of the Commission. Mentions the proposals involved a certain measure of reorganisation.

Mentions formal appointment of General Liddell, the new Adjutant-General, as a member of the Commission.

Announcement of the death of Mr D.G. Somerville, the head of the firm of contractors who built the Menin Gate Memorial and who had carried out a lot of work for the Commission.

Mentions a letter had been received from Mr Alldred, the Manager of the recent South African Pilgrimage, expressing his warmest thanks to the Commission for all their help.

Reports of several ceremonies received since the last Meeting and refers to the party of Members of Parliament which toured the cemeteries in France and Belgium, including the laying of a wreath at the Menin Gate by Herr Horning of the Anglo-German-French Committee.

Mentions Mr J. S. Duncan, the Official Secretary at Australia House, had recently made a tour of the cemeteries in France and Belgium. He was accompanied by Captain Murphy.

Report of ceremony at Cairo where Vice-Admiral Abrial, of the French Navy visited Cairo War Memorial Cemetery and placed a wreath at the base of the Cross of Sacrifice.

Refers to correspondence with Major Brunel Cohen, Treasurer of the British Legion, who expressed dissatisfaction with the appearance of the British plot in Brookwood.

Report Of The 274th Meeting Of The Finance Committee
Adoption of the Report, with reference to:
Item 5, which dealt with a donation made by the Commission to the Hertford British Hospital in Paris, which admitted members of the Commission’s staff requiring serious medical treatment.
Item 7, which dealt with the question of pensions.
Item 8, which authorised the grant of £100 to Brigadier Prower towards the cost of his removal expenses from Canada to France.
Item 9, which dealt with the question of leave to the staff in Eastern District.

Report Of The 17th Meeting Of The Education Committee
Announcement of resignation of Sir Edmund Phipps, with update on the business of the Committee and a resolution for the adoption of the report.

German Graves In The United Kingdom
Resolution for the approval of the proposal for acquisition in the Commission’s name of land for the purpose of creating new German war graves cemeteries.

Inclusion Of The Names Of Architects On The Memorials
Discussion regarding proposal for the inclusion of the names of the Commission’s architects on the memorials designed by them.

Appointment Of An Agency In Burma
Resolution for the appointment of an Agency of the Commission in Burma.

Discovery And Reburial Of Bodies In France And Belgium
Refers to paper before the meeting, with comment from the Vice-Chairman that it would be impossible to say when the discovery of bodies was likely to cease altogether.
