DescriptionMinutes of the 199th Meeting of the Commission
Content NoteTopics discussed:

Mentions various letters of thanks received for the Chairman’s report on his visit to Cologne, and from Sir Isaac Isaacs’s tour of the cemeteries. Various ceremonies recently held in France and Belgium reported on.

Refers to several reproductions of the Commission’s plaque to the Million Dead which were sent to groups in Canada following the positive reaction to those sent earlier to Australia.

The seventh annual report from the Ypres British School was received - the school was flourishing. The Commission’s exhibit at the Johannesburg Exhibition had been well-received. Report Of The 256th Meeting Of The Finance Committee

Loyal North Lancashire Memorial, Cerny-en-Laonnois
Refers to arguments for and against the removal of this monument to the Vendresse British Cemetery which were presented. Commissioners unanimously refuse the move as it would depart from the Commission’s principles, would be artistically undesirable, and as ownership of the land had only recently been granted it might be misinterpreted.

Employment Of The Sons Of Gardener Caretakers
Commissioners agreed to recruit more gardeners from the families of existing ones. All would have to be British and fluent English-speakers.

25th Meeting Of The Staff Committee
Messrs. Lawson and Kerck had visited France to discuss two small difficulties. No disciplinary measures to be taken with Head Gardener Mr Cox, but no further action could be taken for the hardship case caused by the question of exchange relief.
