Local participation, particularly by children, was noted. Mention of the Commission’s representation at Notre Dame de Lorette and the Arc de Triomphe received thanks from the French Government. Ceremonies also in Italy, Germany and Egypt.
Claim from gardeners in Belgium against the cut in the cost-of-living bonus now dropped due to lack of support. Salaried staff in Belgium also had a cut to their salaries. Their appeal against this to be considered by the Staff Committee.
Report Of The 236th Meeting Of The Finance Committee Mentions that the cost of the screen wall in the Haidar Pasha Cemetery to commemorate soldiers buried in South Russia was approximately £250.
Statement Of Accounts Of The Endowment Fund Mention that the accounts of the Endowment Fund were presented. Current value £2,895,197.
Colonel Oswald’s Report Of His Visit To The East Report on Colonel Oswald’s visit to Germany, Greece, Egypt and Palestine. No pressing concerns were found. Asked about the private memorials in Chatby Cemetery, Colonel Oswald said he did not visit that cemetery, but he believed most had been removed. As private memorials fell into disrepair they would be replaced by standard Commission ones.
Minutes Of The Anglo-Greek Mixed Committee Mentions the chief question raised at the recent meeting was the appointment of new British members. Suggested that Sir Fabian Ware and the British Consuls at Athens and Salonika should be appointed. Committee members agreed to approach the Bulgarian Government to discuss the provision of permanent stones.
