Title
Memorials Erected by Other Groups or Individuals
Description
This section is concerned with memorials not erected by the Commission, but which were assisted by or of interest to it. In many cases, especially the Dominion national memorials, battle exploit memorials and unit memorials, the Commission assisted by acting as negotiators with local - mainly French or Belgian - authorities. The Commission also received enquiries and complaints about the condition of these memorials, and frequently undertook their upkeep out of funds provided by those who had erected them. There are 7 sub-sections (A-G), which cover:
A. National memorials of the Dominions in France
B. Battle exploit memorials in France and Belgium
C. Memorials erected by military units to their dead
D. Local, institutional and military memorials in UK.
E. National and local memorials in the Dominions and Colonies
F. Other British and Dominion Memorials in Theatres of War.
G. Foreign and international memorials
