Title
Private CECIL JOHN BIRCH - LONDON CEMETERY AND EXTENSION, LONGUEVAL - Australian Infantry, A.I.F.
Multimedia
Description
Correspondence concerning the grave of Private Cecil John Birch, from his mother (H.P. Birch), sister (F.M. Gillson) and brother-in-law (Alex U. Gillson). The Commission was unable to identify the casualty's grave after the First World War, but was able to identify it in the 1930s when human remains with a distinctive gold signet ring were discovered (the ring later being returned to the family). In the 1970s cemetery particulars were requested, along with a photograph of the grave.
Content Note
Includes: Handwritten and typed letters from the casualty's mother, sister and brother-in-law, and a wax impression of the casualty's signet ring, sent to the family for identification purposes.
