| Content Note | A study bible presented to the Commission by Mr E A Clutten for use in the Chapel at St. Sever cemetery in 1929. Recorded as having repairs done when it was accepted into the Commissions care. Subsequently 'rescued' by Commission head gardener Nelson Seadon Hanslip during the evacuation in 1940. Was stored at Wooburn Green druing the remainder of the war, and was returned to the Chapel in St Sever in 1948. (See WG 812/2 PTs. 1&2)
It is recorded as being housed in the Chapel in the 1960s (see DAMS asset No. 361014 for image of bible on lectern). Repairs were made to the binding in 1968. In the early 1970s the Chapel was repurposed to store horticultural machinery, and the bible is recorded as being transferred to the home of a Mr. Harris for safekeeping in 1973. It was noted that the bible had been sent to HO in Maidenhead in 1975. (See CEM 19023) |
