Content Note1. Consideration of Vice-Chairman’s report No.56 of expenditure authorised under Resolution 3 (1) of the 54th meeting of the Commission, with the resolution that this be accepted

2. Consideration of a detailed report of expenditure from Commission funds for September 1923 submitted by the Chairman, with the resolution that this be accepted

3. Consideration of a report by the Director of Works re the consideration of tenders for the supply, engraving and erection of 179 headstones in St James’ Cemetery, Dover, with the resolutions that the contract by Messrs Low Giddings Ltd be accepted at a sum of £462.8.4, that a sum of £93.18.6 be expended to defray the Burial Board’s fees, that a sum of £45 be expended on engraving personal inscriptions pending receipt of remittances of the next-of-kin concerned and that a sum of £45 be expended to meet the cost of contingencies

4. Consideration of a report by the Director of Works re the consideration of tenders for constructional work to be carried out in Lambeth Borough Cemetery, with the resolutions that the tender by Messrs Dove Bros Ltd be accepted at a sum of £828.7.9, that a sum of £10 be expended on a bronze sword to be affixed to the War Cross in the said cemetery and that a sum of £80 be expended to meet the cost of contingencies

5. Consideration of a report by the Director of Works re the chemical treatment of 90,000 headstones with silico-floride, with the resolution that a sum of Francs 150,000 be expended for this purpose

6. Consideration of a report by the Deputy Controller, France and resolution 11 of the 72nd meeting of the Finance Committee re living quarters for gardeners in France, with the resolution that a sum of Francs 37,000 be expended on erecting temporary additional annexes

7. Consideration of a report by the Director of Works and resolution 12 of the 59th meeting of the Commission re constructional work to be carried out in Meerut Indian Cemetery, with the resolutions that a sum of Francs 72,000 be expended on direct labour for this purpose and that a sum of Francs 11,000 be expended to meet the cost of contingencies

8. Consideration of a letter from the Land and Legal Adviser and a memorandum by the Director of Works re Contract 1920 C in relation to constructional work to be carried out in La Kreule British Cemetery, with the resolution that the request by the contractor M Jules Blaton to be paid in French instead of Belgian currency, be denied

9. Consideration of a report by the Land and Legal Adviser re Contract 1920 C.C between the Commission and Enterprises Somerville, with the resolution that the reserve held by the Commission be reduced from Francs 200,000 to Francs 75,000, the difference amounting to Francs 125,000 to be returned to the Contractors

10. Consideration of a letter from the Chief Accountant, France a report from the Assistant Legal Adviser, France and a minute from the Land and Legal Adviser re an accident involving a Commission Ford touring car resulting in an injury in France, with the resolution that Francs 10,000 be paid as a compensation to M Lemaitre, the injured party

11. Consideration of a report by the Director of Works and Resolution 10 of the 59th meeting of the Commission re the preparation of Bills of Quantities by Mr. Pinks for Kut, Amara, Baghdad and Basra cemeteries, with the resolution that a sum of £325 be expended to defray these fees

12. Consideration of a letter from the Air Officer Commanding British Forces in Iraq, a report by the Director of Works and resolution 9 of 59th meeting of the Commission re the construction of cemeteries Basrah and a memorial to the Missing in Baghdad, Kut, Amarah and Basra, with the resolution that a sum of £5,200 be expended on purchasing the land required for erecting the said cemeteries, that the proposal of the Air Officer Commanding Iraq to undertake the work at contribution rates (including cost of materials, labour and 20% overhead charges) be accepted, that a sum of £47,000 be expended on the construction of the cemeteries, that a sum of £9400 be expended to defray the cost of the Air Ministry’s overhead charges, that a sum of £250 be expended on the concentration of graves and that a sum of £500 be expended on maintaining the cemeteries, the return of wooden crosses and any other incidental expenses

13. Consideration of a report by the Director of Works re the supply of 150 Granite headstones for Dalmeny Cemetery, South Queensferry, with the resolution that tenders be invited for this purpose
