Administrative expenses of the Commission in France Consideration of report from the Finance Department regarding the administrative expenses of the Commission in France for quarter ending 30th September 1923. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £50400 for the cost of administrative expenses.
4. Administrative expenses of the Commission in Macedonia Consideration of report from the Finance Department regarding the administrative expenses of the Commission in Macedonia for quarter ending 30th September 1923. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £900 for the cost of administrative expenses.
5. Administrative expenses of the Commission in London, Italy, and Neutral Countries Consideration of report from Finance Department regarding the over-expenditure of certain sums of money in respect of incidental expenses, London, Administrative expenses, Italy, and Travelling and Allowances, Neutral Countries. Resolution to approve the expenditure of a total of £473 to cover the expenses.
6. Analysis of expenditure for 6 months ending 31st March, 1923 Consideration of report from Finance Department containing an analysis of the Commission’s expenditure for the period 1st October 1922 to 31st March 1923. Papers ordered to be laid on the table.
7. Write off in respect of losses of tools from cemeteries in France and Belgium Consideration of letter from Chief Accountant, France, regarding the theft of Horticultural Tools from cemeteries in France and Belgium. Resolution to write off the value of £34. 2s. 7d., being the value of the tool stolen.
8. Authority to Vice-Chairman to expend money during adjournment of Commission’s Meetings in August Consideration of letter from Finance Department asking for authority for the Vice-Chairman to expend a sum not exceeding £10,000 for items in excess of the authority already given in view of the adjournment of the Commission meetings during August. Resolution To approve the expenditure of £10000 for the purpose of the Commission for items in excess of the authority already given.
9. Programmes of constructional work in France and Belgium Consideration of report from Director of works and report from Finance Department regarding the acceptance of tenders for the construction of cemeteries comprised in Programmes O and P. Resolution to recommend the Committee be authorised to consider and accept tenders for the construction of the listed cemeteries.
10. Tenders for supply and erection of headstones in cemeteries at Newcastle-on-Tyne Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding the erection of headstones in Cemeteries in Newcastle-on-Tyne. Resolution: to accept the tender of Messrs W H Endean and Son for the supply, engraving, transport, and erection of 527 headstones in cemeteries at Newcastle-on-Tyne for the sum of £1686. 8s. 0d.; to approve the expenditure of £170 for the cost of contingencies; and to approve the expenditure of £170 for the cost of engraving personal inscriptions on headstones pending the remittances from the next-of-kin.
11. Tenders for construction of Christchurch Cemetery, Portsdown Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding constructional work to be carried out in Christchurch Cemetery, Portsdown. Resolution: to accept the tender of Messrs H G Wilkins and Sons, Limited, for constructional work to be carried out in Christchurch Cemetery for the sum of £443. 13s. 2d.; to approve the expenditure of £45 for the cost of contingencies; and to approve the expenditure of £10 for the cost of affixing a bronze sword to the War Cross.
12. Construction to be carried out in Paris Cemeteries Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding constructional work to be carried out in four Paris Cemeteries. Resolution to approve the expenditure of Francs (Drench) 144,744 for the cost of constructional work to be carried out in Cimetiere des Guards, City of Paris Cemetery, Pantin, Sezanne Communal Cemetery Extension, and City of Paris Cemetery, Bagneux, and of contingencies.
13. Tenders for construction of Ramleh Cemetery, Palestine Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding constructional work to be carried out in Ramleh War Cemetery, Palestine. Resolution to accept the tender of Messrs. De Farro & Co. for constructional work to be carried out at Ramleh War Cemetery for the sum of £E.10,103.228 m/ms, and to approve the expenditure of £E.2300 for the cost of contingencies.
14. Tenders for construction of Indian Memorial, Fort Tewfik Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding the construction and erection of the Memorial to the Missing Dead of the Indian Army at Port Tewfik. Resolution to accept the tender of Messrs. De Farro for the construction and erection of the memorial to the Missing Dead of the Indian Army at Port Tewfik for the sum of £e.12,068.979 m/m; to approve the expenditure of £1860 for the cost of sculptors fees and modelling work to be carried out in connection with the memorial, and of contingencies; and to accept the recommendation by Sir John Burnet that Mr C S Jagger be employed on the terms proposed.
15. Tenders for construction of Memorial to the ‘Missing’ at Cape Helles Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding construction of Memorial to the Missing Dead at Cape Helles on the Gallipoli Peninsula. Resolution to adjourn the matter until the next meeting of the Committee.
16. Concentration to be carried out in East Africa Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding concentration in East Africa. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £650 for the cost of the concentration of graves in East Africa as detailed in the Director of Work’s report.
17. Claim in respect of their contract by Messrs Sir John Payne Gallwey, Ltd Consideration of letter from Messrs. Sir John Payne Gallway, Limited, regarding their Gallipoli contract. Resolution to recommend a reply be sent in the terms of the draft submitted by the chairman.
18. Memorials to the ‘Missing’ at Bethune, Cambrai, Armentieres, and Soissons Consideration of report from Land and Legal Adviser regarding the designing of the Memorials to the Missing to be erected in France. Resolution: to accept the offer of Sir Aston Webb to act as Assessor in the competition for the Memorials to the Missing dead to be erected at Bethune, Armentieres, Cambrai and Soissons for a fee of £353.10s.0d.; to instruct the Director of Works to draft regulations to govern the said competition in consultation with the Land and Legal Adviser and to submit such draft regulations for the opinion of the Assessor; to provide for the payment of premiums to the successful competitors as listed; and to instruct the Director of Works to submit the regulations and the opinion of the Assessor thereon to the Committee for approval.
19. Expenditure on transport in connection with His Majesty the King’s visit to British War Cemeteries in Italy. Consideration of claim from E Minetti of Milan for the hire of cars for the purpose of the Royal visit to the British War Cemeteries in Italy. Resolution to approve the payment of Lire 30,927.35 to E Minetti, and that Lire 18856.65 be charged to Commission Funds and that the Comptroller of the Royal Household be requested to refund the sum of Lire 12070.70 representing the cost of the hire of transport used by Their Majesties and Suite.
