Consideration of the Vice-Chairman’s detailed report of expenditure. Resolution to adopt the report.

3. Administrative expenses of the Canadian Agency of the Commission
Consideration of report from the Finance Department regarding the administrative expenses of the Canadian Agency of the Commission. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £700 for the cost of administrative expenses of the Canadian Agency for the period 1st April to 30th September 1923

4. Administrative expenses of the Commission in Palestine
Consideration of report from Finance Department relative to the administrative expenses of the Commission in Palestine. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £1420 for the cost of administrative expenses of the Commission in Palestine for the quarter ending 30th September 1923.

5. Tenders for bronze work, Lawnswood Cemetery, Leeds
Consideration of report from Director of Works relative to the constructional work to be carried out at Lawnswood Cemetery, Leeds. Resolution to accept the tender of Messrs Charles Henshaw for the supply of bronze panels to be affixed to the screen wall constructed in Lawnswood Cemetery for the sum of £255. 17s. 6d., and to approve the expenditure of £25 for the cost of contingencies.

6. Tenders for constructional work to be carried out in Gateshead East Cemetery
Consideration of report from Director of Works relative to constructional work to be carried out at Gateshead Eastern Cemetery. Resolution: to accept the tender of Messrs W Alexander and Sons for constructional work to be carried out in Gateshead East Cemetery for £440. 2s. 4d.; to approve the expenditure of £45 for the cost of contingencies; and to approve the expenditure of £20 for the cost of the supply of a bronze sword to be affixed to the War Cross.

7. Tenders for the supply of 181 bronze swords
Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding the supply of 181 Bronze Swords for affixing to Great War Crosses in the Commission’s Cemeteries. Resolution to accept the tender of Messrs Humphrys & Oakes for the supply of 181 Bronze swords for £892. 9s. 11d., and to approve the expenditure of £90 for the cost of transport of the swords and contingencies.

8. Tenders for the supply of 14949 headstones
Consideration of report from Director of Works submitting tenders for the supply of 14947 headstones to be erected in Cemeteries in France and Belgium. Resolution: to accept, subject to conditions, the tenders for the supply and engraving of headstones of the firms set out in Schedule C; to approve the expenditure of £32,125. 10s. 2d. to meet the Commission’s liabilities under the proposed contracts including the cost of transport of the headstones to Dover Harbour; to approve the expenditure of £5200 for the cost of transport of the headstones from Dover to the cemeteries named in the proposed contract and of contingencies; and to approve the expenditure of £6000 for the cost of engraving personal inscriptions on the headstones pending the receipt of remittance from next-of-kin.

9. Construction of Mudros Eastern Cemetery
Consideration of report from Director of Works for constructional work to be carried out at Mudros Eastern Cemetery. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £3930 for the cost of constructional work to be carried out at Mudros Eastern Cemetery in accordance with the estimate of cost furnished by the Deputy Director of Works, Gallipoli.

10. Tenders for constructional work to be carried out and supply and creation of Headstones in Flushing Cemetery, Holland
Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding the supply, engraving and erection of 34 headstones in Flushing Cemetery Holland. Resolution: to accept the tender of Messrs D Waltz for constructional work to be carried out for the supply, engraving, and erection of 34 headstones in Flushing Cemetery, for Florins 4343; to approve the expenditure of Florins 440 for the cost of contingencies; and to approve the expenditure of Florins 230 for the cost of engraving personal inscriptions pending the receipt of remittances from next-of-kin.

11. Amendment to draft articles of agreement with Sir John Durnet in connection with the erection of Memorials to the Missing in Gallipoli
Consideration of report from Land and Legal Adviser submitting an amendment to the draft articles of agreement between the Commission and Sir John Burnet, approved by resolution 6 of the 76th meeting of the Committee. Resolution to adjourn the matter until the next meeting of the Committee.

12. Draft articles of agreement with Mr Robert Baker in connection with the erection of an Indian Memorial at Neuve Chapelle
Consideration of report from Land and Legal Adviser submitting draft articles of agreement to be entered into between the Commission and Mr Herbert Baker for the construction of the Indian Memorial to be erected at Neuve Chapelle, France. Resolution to approve the amount of and method of payment of the renumeration to be paid to the architect as provided in the draft articles of agreement, subject to paragraph 8 of the draft articles being amended.

13. Erection of headstones over Serbian graves in Sudfriedhof, Cologne
Consideration of report from Principal Assistant Secretary regarding the erection of headstones over six Serbian graves in Cologne Southern Cemetery. Resolution to recommend the headstones be erected in a similar pattern to and at a cost not exceeding those erected over the British War Graves in this Cemetery.

14. Salaries of the Commission’s staff in Egypt
Consideration of letters from the Acting Chairman of the Anglo-Egyptian War Cemeteries Executive Committee and a statement made by Dr Hastings, Chairman of the Anglo-Egyptian War Cemeteries Executive Committee, regarding the salaries of certain officials and staff in Egypt. Resolution to fix the salary of Mr A Sutton at a personnel rate of £500 p.a. and that of Mr Harrison at £780 p.a., these salaries to be reconsidered at the same time as other salaries paid by the Commission to their Egyptian staff.

15. Claim by Messrs Purdy and Hillard
Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding a claim made by Messrs Purdy and Millard (one of the Commission’s Contractors for the supply of headstones) in respect of increases in wages paid to their workers during the period of carrying out their Contract No.17. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £318. 1s. 0d. in settlement of the claim of Messrs Purdy and Millard.

16. Purchases of four two-seater Ford cars for the Commission in France
Consideration of report from Deputy Controller, France, requesting the supply of four two-seater Ford cars for use in France and Belgium. Resolution to approve the purchase offour Ford Cars.
