2. Tender for the supply of War Crosses for cemeteries in East Africa Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding the supply of War Crosses for cemeteries in Kenya. Resolution: to rescind paragraph 1 of Resolution 3 of the 63rd Meeting of the Committee; to accept the tender of Messrs United Stone Firms Limited for the supply of three war crosses for £319.7s.0d.; to increase the £406 authorised to be expended in Resolution 3 of the 63rd Meeting by £57 to cover the cost of the supply of an additional bronze sword and the transport of the sword and cross to site; to increase the sum of £4582 authorised to be expended by paragraph 5 of Resolution 3 of the 63rd Meeting by £577 to meet the cost of contingencies arising from work to be carried out at Taveta Cemetery; to increase the sum of £820 authorised to be expended by paragraph 8 of Resolution 3 of the 63rd Meeting by £57 to meet the cost of contingencies arising from work to be carried out in Taveta Cemetery.
3. Replacement or correction of defective headstones erected over British graves in Italy Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding the replacement of headstones in Italian cemeteries. Resolution to approve the expenditure of Lire 18480 for the cost of replacing 70 headstones in Magna Boschi, Granezza, Cavalletto, Giavera, Tezze, Montecchio, Precalcino, and Dueville Cemeteries.
4. Tenders for construction of 22 cemeteries in France and Belgium (Contract 1923K) Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding the construction of 22 Cemeteries in France. Resolution: to accept the tender of Messrs D G Somerville & Co. Ltd., for the construction of 22 cemeteries for Francs (French) 986, 639. Centimes 18; to approve the expenditure of Francs (French) 80,000 for the cost of constructing enclosure walls around Chissignies British Cemetery, Highland British Cemetery, Inchy Communal Cemetery Extension, and Vendegies Cross Roads British Cemetery; to approve the expenditure of Francs (French) 106,664 for the cost of contingencies; to accept the offer made by Messrs Somerville & Co. Ltd., to construct 13 additional cemeteries under the same terms as their tender for the 22 cemeteries; and that the necessary exchange to cover the Commission’s liabilities under the proposed contracts be purchased as and when advised by the Treasury.
5. Tenders for constructional work to be carried out in Nunhead Cemetery Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding work to be carried out in Nunhead Cemetery. Resolution: to accept the tender of Messrs Burslem and Son for constructional work to be carried out at Nunhead Cemetery for £726.9s.0d.; to approve the expenditure of £72 for the cost of contingencies; and to approve the expenditure of £10.0s.0d for the supply of a bronze sword to be affixed to the War Cross in the cemetery.
6. Provision of Lorry Sheds at Armentieres, Bethune and Albert Consideration of report from Deputy Controller, France, regarding the construction of Lorry Sheds. Resolution to accept the tenders of the Etablissements Novas for the construction of lorry sheds at Albert for Francs (French) 11,550, at Bethune for Francs (French) 11,550, and at Armentieres for Francs (French) 10, 450, and to approve the expenditure of Francs 1,676 for the cost of contingencies.
7. Purchase of perpetual rights and perpetual maintenance of plot containing British War Graves in Greenwood Cemetery, Fort Worth, Texas, USA Consideration of letter from Land and Legal Adviser regarding the perpetual maintenance of the plot containing British War Graves in Greenwood Cemetery, Fort Worth, Texas, USA. Resolution to approve the expenditure of $750 on the purchase of perpetual rights of burial in and perpetual maintenance of the plot, and to authorise the Secretary of the Canadian Agency to make and execute “deeds of perpetual maintenance” with cemetery authorities in Canada and the USA on behalf of the Commission.
8. Revision of rates of pay of temporary clerical classes Consideration of letter from the Treasury regarding the revision of pay of Temporary Clerical Classes. Resolution to apply the revisions of the circular to those grades of the Commission’s staff to whom they are applicable.
9. Few to Mr Pinks in connection with the taking out of quantities for Fort Tewfik Memorial Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding the fees of Mr Pinks in connection with the Memorial to the Missing to be erected at Port Tewfik. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £100 for the cost of the fees of Mr Pinks in connection with the taking out of quantities for the memorial.
10. Letter from Messrs Payne Gallwey Consideration of report from Director of Works regarding the contract placed with Messrs Payne Gallwey & Co. Ltd. for the construction of cemeteries on the Gallipoli Peninsula. Resolution: to forego the reduction of 4% on all prices of Messrs Gallwey’s contract subsequent to the delivery of the tender in view of the circumstances of the case; that future payments on account under the contract be made at the unit prices contained in the bills of quantities without reduction; that the monies due to Messrs Gallwey be retained and paid to the firm on the completion of the work to the satisfaction of the Director of Works; and that the time for completion of the work be extended to the 31st December 1923.
