Note for the Vice Chairman re the Committee’s decision to rescind resolution 17 of the 58th meeting of the Finance Committee

1. Consideration of the Vice-Chairman’s report No.35 of Expenditure authorised under resolution 4 (1) of the 43rd meeting of the Commission, with the resolution that this be accepted

Minutes re the return of wooden crosses from the graves of soldiers to their to next-of-kin, October 1922

2. Consideration of the detailed report of Expenditure from Commission Funds for May 1922 as submitted by the Chairman, with the resolution that this be accepted

3. Consideration of a report by the Principal Assistant Secretary re the extension of staff appointments, with the resolutions that the appointments of five Assistant Registration Officers at £350-15-400 and 12 Field Assistants at £150 per annum be extended to 31st December 1922 and subject to review for their continuance after 30th September 1922

4. Consideration of a report by the Director of Records re the supply of further free copies of Cemetery Registers to the High Commissioners of the Commonwealth, with the resolution that this be accepted

5. Consideration of resolution 8 of the 45th meeting of the Commission, a report by the Director of Works and a letter from the Land and Legal Adviser re the consideration of tenders for the construction of the three naval memorials, with the resolutions that the tender by Messrs G E Wallis and Sons for the construction of the Chatham Naval Memorial be accepted at a sum of £12,789, that the tender by Messrs S Salter, Portsmouth for the construction of the Portsmouth Naval Memorial be accepted as a sum of £13,936, that the tender by Messrs D G Somerville, London for the construction of the Plymouth Naval Memorial be accepted at a sum of £14,792 and that a sum not exceeding £4,180 be expended to meet the cost of contingencies

6. Consideration of a report by the Principal Assistant Secretary and a minute by the Director of Works re the appointment of three first-class Clerks of Works to each of the Naval Memorials at Portsmouth, Plymouth and Chatham, with the resolution that three first-class Clerks of Works be appointed at salaries of £350 per annum

7. Consideration of letters between the Commission and Messrs Drower and Brighton, Surveyors, a report by the Director of Works and letter from Sir Reginald Blomfield re fees for quantity surveying, the measuring and preparation of estimates for payments on account in connection to the construction of the Menin Gate Memorial, with the resolution that the terms offered by Messrs Drower and Brighton be accepted

8. Consideration of resolution 5 of the 46th meeting of the Commission and a report by the Director of Works re the construction of the Lone Pine Memorial to the Missing, with the resolutions that a sum not exceeding £61,713 be expended on the construction of the Record House in Lone Pine Cemetery, that a sum not exceeding £3,000 be expended on additional work to the foundations and structures as protection against earthquakes, that a sum not exceeding £3,500 be expended on additional walling required to accommodate the panels containing the names of Australian and New Zealand casualties, that a sum not exceeding £4,000 be expended be expended to meet the costs of contingencies and that resolutions 1,2,3 and 4 be an addition to the present contract with Messrs Sir John Payne Gallway, Brown & Co

9. Consideration of resolution 6 of the 46th meeting of the Commission and a report by the Director of Works re constructional work to the Chunuk Bair Memorial, with the resolutions that a sum not exceeding £5,750 be expended on additional walling in the cemeteries at Chunuk Bair, Hill 60 and Twelve Tree Copse to accommodate the panels containing the names of Australian and New Zealand casualties and that resolutions 1 be an addition to the present contract with Messrs Sir John Payne Gallway, Brown & Co

10. Consideration of a report by the Director of Works re the supplying, engraving and fixing of tablets commemorating the gift of land in Arabic and English in cemeteries in Egypt, with the resolution that a sum not exceeding £564 be expended for this purpose and the work be carried out Messrs de Farro &Co

11. Consideration of a report by the Deputy Director of Works, Palestine re administrative costs of the Commission, with the resolution that a sum not exceeding £1600 be expended for this purpose

12. Consideration of resolution 4 of the 46th meeting of the Commission and a report by the Director of Works re the consideration of tenders for the supply, engraving and erection of 78 headstones in Vevey Cemetery, with the resolution that the tender by Messrs Reymond be accepted at a sum of Francs 25,730 for this purpose and that a sum not exceeding Francs 2500 be expended to meet the cost of contingencies

13. Report of Inspection of transport between 25th May to 22nd June 1922 and a tabulated statement concerning driver’s wages and subsistence allowance of the Commission in France and Belgium for the quarter ending 31st March 1922

14. Consideration of a report by the Director of Works re the purchase of a watercolour drawing of Tyne Cot Memorial, with the resolution that a sum of 15 guineas be expended for this purpose

15. Consideration of a report by the Principal Assistant Secretary re the continuation of the Commission’s Enquiries staff in Berlin, Germany, with the resolution that 10 German Clerks at Marks 37,840.80 per month and the Superintendent Clerk at £3.10s.0d per week with an allowance of Marks 3,300 per month be employed for a further 6 months as from 1st July 1922

16. Consideration of resolution 8 of the 46th meeting of the Commission and a report by the Land and Legal Adviser re Mr Colbran’s claim for compensation regarding a motor transport incident whilst on Commission duty, with the resolution that a compassionate grant be made to Mr Colbran

17. Consideration of a report by the Land and Legal Adviser re the purchase of perpetual concessions of British war graves situated in Noordwijk and Amersfoort cemeteries, with the resolution that Florins 4273 be expended to defray the cost of concessions of land
