2. Administrative expenditure, France, for quarter ending 31st December 1931 Consideration of a report from the Director of Works covering a letter from the Deputy Controller, France, relative to the expenditure of monies to defray the cost of the administration of the Commission in France and Belgium, during the quarter ending 31st December 1921. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £53,976 for the cost of certain miscellaneous administrative expenses in France and Belgium.
3. Erection of 5000 Headstones by Direct Labour in France and Belgium Consideration of a report from the Director of Works, requesting authority to proceed with the erection of 5000 headstones in cemeteries in France and Belgium by direct labour. Resolution that the expenditure of Frcs 150,000 to defray the cost of the construction of concrete foundations for and the erection of 5000 headstones be approved, and that it be an instruction to the Director of Works that no work may be commenced until he has obtained the certificate of the Land and Legal Adviser that the necessary arrêté confirming the Commission’s title to the land has been received from the French Authorities.
4. Construction work at Lawnswood Cemetery, Leeds Consideration of report from Director of Works relative to constructional work proposed to be executed at Lawnswood Cemetery Leeds. Resolution that, subject to the Commission approving the design and to Sir George Cockburn entering into a binding engagement with the Commission to bear the cost of carrying out such a part of the design as he has expressed himself willing to bear and carry out, the Committee be authorised to consider and accept tenders for constructional work to be carried out at Lawnswood Cemetery, at a cost of not exceeding £982.
5. Appointment of Chief Clerk of Works, France Consideration of letter from Principal Assistant secretary requesting authority to appoint two Chief Clerks of Works for service in France and Belgium, towards completing the Establishments authorised in the estimates. Resolution to recommend the appointment of two Chief Clerks of Works to the staff of the Commission in France and Belgium at a salary of £350/15/400.
6. Supply and erection of 1569 headstones for Brookwood Cemetery Consideration of report of the Director of Works on tenders received for constructional work to be carried out at Brookwood Cemetery. Resolution: that the tenders of Messrs Burslem & Sons for the supply, engraving, transport, and erection of 1569 headstones at Brookwood cemetery be accepted; that the tender of Messrs The London Necropolis Company for constructional work to be executed at Brookwood Cemetery be accepted; that the expenditure of a further sum of 10% of the total value of the said contracts be approved for the cost of contingencies; and that the expenditure of a further sum of £1000 for the cost of engraving personal inscriptions, pending the receipt of the money from the next-of-kin concerned, be approved.
7. Construction work at Haifa Cemetery, Palestine Consideration of report from the Director of Works on tenders received for constructional work to be executed at Haifa Cemetery, Palestine. Resolution: that the tender of Mr F Beilharz for contructional work to be executed at Haifa Cemetery for the sum £E.1849.52 be accepted; that the expenditure of a further sum of £50 to defray the cost of affixing two Kaluma Tablets in Haifa cemetery be approved; and that the expenditure of a further sum of £E.275 for the costs of lettering and contingencies be approved.
8. Accommodation, London Consideration of a letter from the Principal Assistant Secretary relative to proposed alterations in the office accommodation at the Commission’s premises in London. After discussion the matter was allowed to drop, no motion being made.
9. Case of Mr Burgess, Injury Claim Consideration of letter from Principal Assistant Secretary relative to certain ex-gratia payment to be made to Mr W Burgess in respect of injuries received by him as a result of an accident at Terlinothun Cemetery on the 4th April, 1921. Resolution: that £5 be granted to Mr Burgess towards the cost of the electrical treatment recommended by his medical attendant; that an ex-gratia payment of £1. 10s. 0d. per week be approved from the 26th September 1921 until the expiry of 6 months from the 26th June 1921; and that the expenditure be borne by the Commission’s Compassionate Fun.
10. Additional Clerk of Works United Kingdom Consideration of letter from Principal Assistant Secretary covering an application from Director of Works requesting authority to appoint an additional Clerk of Works for service in the UK. Resolution to appoint an additional Clerk of Works to the staff of the Commission in London on a salary of £300.
11. Motor Vehicles Gallipoli Consideration of letter from Finance Department submitting proposals made by Deputy Director of Works, Gallipoli for the purchase of a Fort Touring Car and a Triumph Motorcycle for the use of the Commission in Gallipoli. Resolution to purchase 1 Ford Touring Car and 1 Triumph Motor Cycle for the use of the Commission in Gallipoli at a total cost of not exceeding £270.
