Consideration of letter from the Secretary, Anglo-Egyptian War Cemeteries Executive Committee, relative to the cost of the administration of the Commission in Egypt during the six months ending 31st March 1922. Resolution to recommend the expenditure of £3000 on the expenses of the Commission in Egypt.

4. Administrative expenditure of Commission in Gallipoli to 31st March 1922
Consideration of letter from Director of Works, Gallipoli, relative to the cost of the administration of the Commission in Gallipoli during the six months ending 31st March 1922. Resolution to recommend the expenditure of £4560 on the expenses of the Commission in Gallipoli.

5. Expenditure of maintenance of Graves in UK to 31st March 1922
Consideration of letter from the Finance Department relative to the cost of the horticultural maintenance of graves in Cemeteries situated in the United Kingdom for the six months ending 31st March 1922. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £2000 for the cost of the horticultural maintenance of graves in cemeteries situated in the UK.

6. Treatment of Graves in Switzerland
Consideration of letter from Director of Works relative to the care and maintenance of British War Graves in Switzerland. Resolution: that the offer from the Municipal Authorities of Vevey, Switzerland, to provide free of cost the perpetual concession of a site in the cemetery at Vevey be accepted; that the expenditure of francs 30,000 on the cost of concentrating the British War Graves in Switzerland to the said plot be approved; and that the Director of Works prepare and submit plans and estimates of cost for the suitable architectural treatment of the plot to the Committee.

7. Agreements for maintenance of Graves in UK
Consideration of letter from Finance Department relative to the desirability of compounding with Cemetery and Churchyard Authorities for the maintenance of graves on the basis of a lump sum capital payment. Resolution to recommend that agreements for the maintenance of graves made with Cemetery and Churchyard Authorities should be on the basis of an annual agreement terminable by reasonable notice.

8. Report on organisation and work of Effects Branch
Consideration of report from Mr Pinsent and Lt Col Ellissen pursuant to Resolution 2 of the 34th Meeting of the Committee on the organisation and works of the Effects Branch. Resolution that the Report be adopted and entered on the Minutes, and that the Controller of Administration carry the recommendations with effect at the earliest possible moment.

9. Application for repatriation from Mr Stockley
Consideration of letter from the Finance Branch relative to an application from Mr F Stockley to be repatriated to Canada on compassionate grounds. Resolution to provide Mr Stockley with a second-class passage to Ottawa, with the cost to be borne by the Commission’s Compassionate Fund.

10. Erection of headstones over civilian graves in Etaples cemetery
Consideration of report from Director of Works relative to the erection of headstones over the graves of civilians in Etaples Cemetery. Resolution that headstones be erected over the graves of the nine civilians interred in Etaples Cemetery in a similar pattern to, and at a cost not exceeding, those erected over War Graves in the Cemetery, and that the relatives be invited to contribute to the cost.

11. Preliminary expenditure on Naval Memorials
Consideration of report from Director of Works requesting authority for the expenditure of the cost of the preparing of drawings with a view to calling for tenders for the construction of the memorials to Officers and Men of the Navy lost at sea. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £250 for the cost of preparing the necessary drawings preliminary to calling for tenders.

12. Claim by Messrs H Dyer & Sons on account of increased wages
Consideration of report from Director of Works on a claim by Messrs H Dyer & Son to be granted a sum above the amount of their contract (Headstone Contract No.10) on account of the increased wages paid to their workmen during the period of the said contract. Resolution to recommend that Messrs H Dyer & Son be granted a sum of £500 in addition to their contract.

13. Audit of Books in Eastern Theatres
Consideration of letter from Messrs Deloitte, Plender, Griffiths & Co. setting out the terms on which they were prepared to send a representative to Macedonia, Gallipoli, and Palestine to examine the local books of the Commission and review the system of accounting. Resolution to invite Messrs Deloitte, Plender, Griffiths & Co. to send a representative to Macedonia, Gallipoli, and Palestine, and that the terms of this service as set out in their letter be accepted.

14. Incremental dates of staff in France
Consideration of letter from Principal Assistant Secretary relative to the proper increment date of officials affected by the revision of establishments. Resolution to recommend that where no immediate increase of salary accrues under the revised establishments, the first incremental date shall be the first anniversary of the appointment of the official occurring after the date of the revised establishment coming into force.

15. Tenders for constructional work at Tottenham & Wood Green Cemetery
Consideration of report from the Director of Works on tenders received for constructional work to be carried out at Tottenham and Wood Green Cemetery. Resolution that the tender of Messrs Low Giddings for the sum of £1549 be accepted, and that the expenditure of a further sum of £150 for the cost of contingencies be approved.

16. Tenders for constructional work at Southern Cemetery, Manchester
Consideration of report from Director of Works relative to tenders received for constructional work to be carried out at southern Cemetery Manchester. Resolution that the tender of Messrs J & E Moores for the sum of £1500. 14s. 0d. be accepted, and that the expenditure of a further sum of £75 for the cost of contingencies be approved.

17. Tenders for constructional work at Duke Street Cemetery, Southport
Consideration of letter from Director of Works relative to tenders received for constructional work to be carried out at Duke Street Cemetery, Southport. Resolution: that the tender of Messrs T A Halliwell for the sum of £270. 6s. 3d be accepted; that the expenditure of a sum of £12 for the cost of a Bronze Sword to be affixed to the Great War Cross in the cemetery be approved; and that the expenditure of a further sum of £40 for the cost of contingencies be approved.

18. Tenders for constructional work at Liverpool Cemeteries
Consideration of letter from Director of Works relative to tenders received for constructional work to be carried out at five cemeteries in Liverpool. Resolution that the tender of Messrs J Stubbs & Sons for constructional work to be carried out in Hopton Wood Stone at Anfield, Allerton, West Derby, Toxteth Park and Kirkdale Cemeteries, Liverpool, for the sum of £4428 be accepted, and that the expenditure of a further sum of £672 for the cost of contingencies be approved.

19. Construction of 20 cemeteries in France by direct labour
Consideration of letter from Director of Works requesting authority to undertake the construction of twenty-five minor cemeteries in France and Belgium either by direct labour or by local contract. Resolution that the expenditure of francs 484,247 be approved for the cost for the construction of the cemeteries containing the 2767 burials set out in Table A, and that the Director of Works be authorised to carry out the work by the method he deems expedient.

20. Tenders for construction of Area Office at Arras, France
Consideration of report from Director of Works relative to tenders for the construction of Area Offices in Arras. Resolution that the tender of Messrs W G Tarrant, Sons & Co. for the sum of francs 318,183 be accepted, and that the expenditure of a further sum of francs 149,180 for the cost of additional work necessary to complete and equip the said Area Office be approved.

21. Tenders for supply of 5000 headstones for Palestine, Macedonia, and Egypt
Consideration of report from Director of Works relative to tenders received for the supply of headstones for cemeteries situated in Palestine, Macedonia, and Egypt. Resolution: that the tender of Messrs Portoni and Zocchinati for the supply of headstones for Palestine, Macedonia, and Egypt for the sum of lire 1,246,761 be accepted; that the expenditure of £2500 be approved for the cost of transport of said headstones from the port of entry to the cemetery sites; that the expenditure of a lire 124,676 be approved for the cost of engraving personal inscriptions on the said headstones pending the receipt of the money from the next-of-kin concerned; and that the expenditure of a further sum of lire 124,676 for the cost of contingencies be approved.

22. Sale of Mechanical Transport to contractor for Gallipoli Cemeteries
Consideration of telegram received from Deputy Director of Works, Gallipoli, requesting authority to sell certain motor transport vehicles and stores to the Commission’s contractors for the construction of the cemeteries in Gallipoli. Resolution that the consideration of this matter be adjourned until the next meeting of the Committee.

23. Appointment of Adviser on Mechanical Transport, London
Consideration of report from the Finance Department recommending the appointment of Colonel T B Browne as Adviser on Mechanical Transport to the Commission. Resolution approving the appointment of Col T B Browne.

24. Salaries for Horticultural Staff, France
Consideration of letter from Principal Assistant Secretary relative to the salaries of the Horticultural Staff in France and a letter from the Horticultural Adviser. Resolution that the salaries of the Senior Officials of the Commission’s Horticultural Staff be regarded as the delineated amounts from 1st June 1921, and that the officers holding these appointments be permitted to enter the regraded scale at the delineated rates.

25. Entertainment allowance for DDW Gallipoli
Consideration of letter from Deputy Director of Works, Gallipoli, requesting authority for expenditure on the cost of entertaining official visitors to the Commission’s Headquarters in Gallipoli. Resolution that an entertainment allowance of £26 be granted to the Deputy Director of Works, Gallipoli for the six months ending 31st March 1922.

26. Construction of cemeteries by direct labour, France
Consideration of letter from Director of Works reporting that of the twenty-five cemeteries for which authority had been given by Resolution 8 of the 34th Meeting of the Committee to carry out constructional work by local contract, only six had been contracted for, and requesting authority to complete the remainder by direct labour under the supervision of the Commission’s Officials. Resolution to recommend that the remaining cemeteries may be constructed by direct labour.
