2. Water supply, Old Cairo Cemetery Consideration of letter from Director of Works and covering letter from Chairman of the Anglo-Egyptian War Cemeteries Executive Committee, relative to the purchase of a pipeline for the supply of water to Cairo Cemetery. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £E.214 for the cost of an improved water supply to the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery.
3. Return of Private Memorial to next-of-kin Consideration of letter from Principal Assistant Secretary relative to the question of the return of a private memorial to the relatives of Second Corporal T W Hudsoeth, R E, and the return of memorials in similar cases. Resolution to approve the expenditure of £8.10s.0d. for the cost of returning a private memorial to 2nd Cpl Hudspeth, to the next-of-kin concerned.
4. Tender by Messrs Burslem & Son for 10,000 headstones Consideration of letter from Director of Works requesting authority to place a tender for the supply of 10000 headstones with Messrs A Burslem & Son for erection chiefly in Etaples Cemetery. Resolution: that the tender of Messrs A Burslem & Son be accepted for a sum of £38,500, subject to conditions; that the expenditure of a further £5640 be approved for the cost of the transport of said stones and contingencies; and that the expenditure of a further £1000 be approved for the cost of engraving personal inscriptions on said stones pending the receipt of the money from the relations.
5. Memorials to the Missing at Giavera Cemetery, Italy Consideration of letter from Director of Works regarding a Memorial to the Missing in Giavera Cemetery. Resolution: that a contract be placed with Messrs Portoni and Zecchinati of Schio, Italy, for the supply and erection of a Memorial to the Missing in Italy at a cost of lire 36212, subject to conditions; that the expenditure of a further lire 3788 be approved for the cost of contingencies; and that the purchase of the necessary exchange to meet the Commission’s liabilities under the proposed contract be approved up to a limit of lire 36212.
6. Tender for construction of Felixstowe and Walton Cemeteries Consideration of letter from Director of Works asking for authority to accept a tender for constructional work to be carried out in Felixstowe and Walton Cemeteries. Resolution: that the tender of Mr Z W Wright for constructional work to be executed at Felixstowe Cemetery for the sum of £210.12s.9d be accepted; that the expenditure of £12 be approved for the cost of the provision and transport of a bronze sword to be affixed to the War Cross in Felixstowe Cemetery; that the tender of Mr E W Wright for the supply and engraving and delivering on site of 49 headstones to be erected in Felixstowe Cemetery for the sum of £203.20s.0d. be accepted; that the tender of Mr E W Wright for the supply, engraving, transport, and erection of 23 headstones to be erected in Walton Cemetery for the sum of £97.15s.0d. be accepted; that the expenditure of a further £70 be approved for the cost of contingencies; and that the expenditure of a further sum of £17 be approved for the cost of engraving personal inscriptions on the said headstones pending the receipt of the money from the relatives.
7. Enquiry Bureau, Ypres, construction of Office Consideration of letter from Director of Works relative to the construction of a building at Ypres to serve as offices and quarters for an Enquiry Bureau and special Area Headquarters. Resolution: that the tender of Mr J S Lomas for constructional work to erect a Commission building in Ypres for the sum of frs. 19180 be accepted; that the expenditure of a further frs. 1920 be approved for the cost of contingencies; that the expenditure of a further frs. 19580 be approved for the cost of completing the said building by direct labour.
8. Preservation of stonework in cemeteries Consideration of letter from Director of Works recommending certain work in connection with the preservation of stonework. Resolution to recommend the expenditure of £100 on the cost of work in connection with the preservation of stonework by treatment with silicon fluoride.
9. Additional survey staff for IWGC, France Consideration of request from Land and Legal Adviser for additional staff with a view to increasing the rate of acquisition of land in France. Resolution to appoint for a limited period ending 30th November 1921 6 Surveyors, 6 Survey Draughtsmen, and 6 Architectural Draughtsmen to the Works Branch, France.
10. Expenditure, France, for three months ending 30th September 1921 Consideration of request from Finance Department requesting authority for the expenditure of the necessary monies for the expenses of the Commission in France and Belgium for the quarter ending 30th September 1921. Resolution outlining the recommended expenditure for France and Belgium for the quarter ending 30th September 1921.
11. Gibraltar Agency Consideration of request from the Principal Assistant Secretary requesting authority for the expenditure of the necessary monies for the expenses of the Commission in connection with the Gibraltar Agency for 6 months. Resolution to recommend the expenditure of £76 to cover the estimated expenditure of the Gibraltar Agency for 6 months.
12. Poperinghe New Military Cemetery Consideration of letter from Land and Legal Adviser and report from Director of Works requesting authority to place tenders with Messrs Enterprises Somerville for constructional work at Poperinghe New Military Cemetery. Resolution that an order be placed with Messrs Enterprises Somerville for constructional work at Poperinghe New Military Cemetery at a cost of francs 56,100, and that the expenditure of a further francs 8500 be approved for the cost of contingencies and horticultural work arising out of the completion of the cemetery, subject to conditions.
13. Expenditure, Egypt, for three months ending 30th September 1921 Consideration of request from the Anglo-Egyptian War Cemeteries Executive Committee for authority for the expenditure of the necessary monies for the expenses of the Commission in Egypt for the 6 months ending 30th September 1921. Resolution outlining the recommended expenditure for Egypt for the 6 months ending 30th September 1921.
14. Cemetery construction – contingency amount Consideration of request from Finance Department of the Commission for authority, in view of the adjournment of the Commission meetings during August, for the provision of a sum of money for work which is maturing or which it is desired to put in hand. Resolution recommending the expenditure of £5000 on cemetery construction, such expenditure to be authorised by the Vice-Chairman in consultation with the Treasury Representative.
15. Monies paid for personal inscriptions by the relatives of New Zealand soldiers Consideration of letter from the High Commissioner of New Zealand relative to the return of monies paid by relatives for inscriptions. Resolution that the monies received from the relatives of New Zealand soldiers be returned to the High Commissioner for refund to the relatives.
